Downtown Denver’s 1801 Caifornia Street office tower, former headquarters of Qwest Communications International, is under contract to Brookfield Asset Management Inc. The skyscraper is now home to local offices of CenturyLink Inc. which bought Qwest in April. Previously, 28-year old 1801 California was the longtime head-quarters of Qwest’s telecom predecessor, US West Inc.

A Brookfield subsidiary, Brookfield Office Properties, also owns Republic Plaza, Denver’s tallest building. The building is owned by Newark, N.J. Public Service paid almost $ 240 million for 1801 California in 1991. When it was put up for sale in 2008, its sale price was speculated to be $492 million, or $385 a square foot.
