For nearly five years of inactivity, it finally appears the redevelopment of Colorado Hospital campus at East Eight Avenue and Colorado Blvd. is getting started. The vacant property is the former home of the University of Colorado Hospital and the CU Medical School which has secured a new developer, city approval of its development plan and a equity partner.  The new owner is Fuqua Development, LLC which took over the $34.8 million development contract from Sembler Co. The $180 million project is planning for a 325 luxury apartments, 300,000 square feet of retail space that could include four main anchors and potential restaurant row perpendicular with Eight Avenue and retail pad sites. This will also include 1,300 parking spaces. Since CU vacated the property in 2007, they have spent about $35 million for maintenance, remediation and security. Demolishing is scheduled to start sometime this year. The project is currently being named “Eight & Colorado”.
